UVic President Announces Security Review
University of Victoria President David Turpin is commissioning a review of the recent security breach at the university involving the theft of personal information of nearly 12,000 current and former employees.
The review will be conducted by an external party. “I am committed to seeing the recommendations resulting from this review implemented as soon as they are available,” says Turpin.
The university will also be cooperating fully with the investigation into the security breach by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC (OIPC). UVic will provide OIPC a draft terms of reference for its review and will share its findings with the office.
UVic will continue to provide support to those affected. The university is also engaging privacy and security experts from the firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP.
In addition to direct contact by email, the university has established a website, www.uvic.ca/infobreach, an information phone line at 250-472-4333 and an information email at privacyinfo@uvic.ca to respond to employee questions and concerns.
