Expert On Iran, Israel, US Tensions

Dr. Andrew Wender, a professor of political science and history at UVic, focuses on politics, religion and Middle Eastern history and has a special interest in Israel, Iran, and the role the United States plays in global politics.
“I am deeply concerned about the ratcheting up of tensions connected with the Iran question,” Wender says. “US President Barack Obama’s recent speech to The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to North America plus Iranian parliamentary elections held last week has increased the urgency to explore what all of this might mean for the region, indeed for global politics in general.”
Contact Professor Wender by calling (250) 721-7484 or by e-mail amwender@uvic.ca
Wender will also be speaking about religious sectarianism in Syria during The Centre for Studies in Religion and Society’s panel, “The Arab Spring One Year Later: Revolution, Resolution and Resentment” as part of IdeaFest, Thursday, March 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Hickman Building 105 at UVic. These events are free and open the public.
