Expert On HST Replaced By PST

The following University of Victoria faculty member is available to discuss the repeal of the harmonized sales tax (HST) and return of the provincial sales tax (PST).

James (“Jamie”) Lawson (Political Science) is available to provide commentary on Finance Minister Kevin Falcon’s tabling of legislation returning the PST and replacing the contentious HST by April of 2013. “The BC Liberal government this week took steps to limit damage caused by its ill-fated approach to implementing an HST,” he says. “But it had no political choice and the bare-bones announcement to restore previous PST exemptions provides an opportunity for a series of good news stories all year long, even to introduce new exemptions, something that could help them in an election year.” (Office: 250-721-7496 or e-mail lawsonj@uvic.ca)
