UVic Experts On The 10th Anniversary Of 9/11

The following University of Victoria faculty members are available to discuss the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

Colin Bennett (Political Science) is an expert in public policy, security, surveillance and complex public-private security arrangements. He can discuss how the 9/11 terrorist attacks changed public policy and increased security and surveillance of people and places. Scott Watson (Political Science) is an expert in international security, international relations theory and the social construction of security/insecurity. Gordon Smith (Global Studies) is the executive director of UVic's Centre for Global Studies and Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation. He can speak on whether the world is more secure in a post - 9/11 world due to military action and domestic and international security measures. Jason Colby (History) teaches courses on American history and US foreign relations. He can discuss the historical roots and context of 9/11 attacks, and the attacks' political impact on the United States. Andrew Rippin (History) is a specialist on Muslim religious thought and can provide comment on how the events of 9/11 have impacted conceptions and perceptions of Islam. (Rippin is best contacted via email: arippin@uvic.ca)

Emmett Macfarlane (Political Science) is a senior instructor whose research examines the relationships between rights, governance and public policy.
