Engineers And Computer Scientists Can Now Double Up

UVic engineering students who want to add business knowledge to their technical skills now have two new choices when it comes to selecting a double degree program. New partnerships have been established with the Sardul S. Gill Graduate School in the Gustavson School of Business that will lead to an MBA + Master of Engineering or an MBA + Master of Science in Computer Science.
       “This is an excellent option for engineering students considering a career in management,” says Dr. Ali Dastmalchian, dean of business. “The MBA enhances their understanding of the functions of business and complements their technical engineering expertise.”
       “We’re very pleased to collaborate with the Gill graduate school in these new double master degrees,” says Dr. Tom Tiedje, dean of engineering. “They are a great opportunity for business-oriented engineering students to get a combined degree.”
       By applying coursework and major projects to both degrees, students can reduce the overall time needed to complete the degrees by up to one year. Students will typically complete the MBA program requirements first, and then transfer to the appropriate department within UVic’s Faculty of Engineering. Students considering classes that begin in August 2012 and who require a visa should submit their application by March 30; Canadian and permanent resident students should submit their application by April 30.
