Summer Arts Day Camp for Young "Warhol Warriers"

Young artists can try their hand at various techniques and explore Canadian art at “Artessy,” a series of new student-run camps at the University of Victoria this summer. Camp instructors are four senior UVic undergraduates in visual arts and history in art, who aim to encourage art appreciation and artistic growth in children ages 6-13.

From July 3 to September 1, the camps – “Abstract Arty’s,” “Expressive Experts,” “Creative Crusaders” and “Warhol’s Warriors” – will help students to explore their imaginations and artistic abilities through painting, drawing, sculpture and multimedia; other projects will also include printmaking, photography and papermaking. At the end of each two-week session, the students will display their work in a gallery show in UVic’s fine arts building where the camp studios will be located.

The budding artists will also be introduced to the work of international artists and the diversity of Canada's significant artistic culture.

All Artessy camps run Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with an extended hours option from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Camp costs are $275 ($325 with extended hours program). Daily programs will alternate between creative projects and general recreation activities such as sports and games.

More information on the camps, including dates and how to register, is available at http://finearts.uvic.ca/visualarts/artessy or email artessy@finearts.uvic.ca
