Pay Parking Fees Change at UVic September 1

Effective September 1, 2007, the University of Victoria will begin charging for parking in all campus parking lots on evenings and Saturdays. There is no charge for parking on Sundays.

A flat $2 fee will be in effect Monday to Friday from 6 p.m. (to 6:59 a.m. the following day), and on Saturday (24 hours). These changes will not affect monthly, term or annual parking pass holders.
The revenue from pay parking offsets the cost of sustainable transportation programs at UVic, including subsidized student and employee bus passes and cycling facilities. It also pays for the cost of parking operations.
“Our sustainable transportation programs have resulted in a 23 per cent reduction in single vehicle traffic to campus since 1996,” says Neil Connelly, Director of Campus Planning and Sustainability. “Previously the subsidization of sustainability initiatives fell solely on those parking during the day. With these new fees, the subsidization is shared more equitably.”

Permits can be purchased with coins or credit cards through automated machines at campus entrances and in parking lots. The cost for a full day (24 hours) of parking on campus will not exceed $6.
As a convenience for frequent users, prepaid value cards, offering a $24 value for $20, are available through Campus Security Services. Parking permits may also be purchased at the University Centre box office at the same time tickets for on-campus events are purchased.
