Premier announces new student housing project

Premier John Horgan’s sunny announcement that the provincial government will back UVic’s ambitious new $201-million campus housing project—providing an additional 620 beds for students living off campus—met with roaring applause at a news conference Nov. 15.

Sustainability field school

As an innovator and advocate of experiential learning, Cam Owens elevated awareness about the value of field schools when he joined UVic’s Department of Geography in 2012. Seven years later, the department has added five field-based schools to its undergraduate program and the popular Sustainability Field School has two programs: the Cascadia Field School and the Urban-Europe Field School.

Campus cycling plan open house

Following a year of consultation, the university’s inaugural Campus Cycling Plan is rolling to the finish line. Faculty, staff and students are invited to an open house in the University Centre lobby on Oct. 10 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. to provide feedback before the plan is presented to the Campus Planning Committee and President for approval later this fall.

Bike-assist powers student to Tesla co-op

Engineering student Simon Park's Caboost invention—a trailer which converts any bicycle into an e-bike—helped him stand out to co-op recruiters at Tesla. Park is one of 44 UVic students who have secured co-ops with the energy and automobile technology company.
