Peru field school teaches ecology, economy and spirituality

Walking along the foothills of the northern Peruvian Amazon, 14 UVic environmental studies students—along with instructors Ana Maria Peredo and Kate Turner and mentors Murdith McLean and Frederique Apffel-Marglin—embarked on a unique learning experience this spring that wove together ecology, economy and spirituality in an Indigenous setting.

Community-university engagement is one of the core values at UVic and one of the top six priorities identified in UVic's Strategic Framework for 2018-23. Humanities grad helps revitalize Galician language

One could say that humanities graduate student Ildara Enríquez was born for her role as a linguistics researcher. Growing up on the Iberian Peninsula in the northwest region of Spain, Enriquez spoke her native language of Galician at home. At school, she conversed in Spanish.Both were official languages, but as a teenager, Enríquez made a decision.

Pathways Scholarship Winner
