FutureGrid forum debates tough energy questions facing BC
The media is invited to hear leading energy and climate change experts discuss and debate the controversial issue of what direction British Columbia’s electricity regime should take, at the “FutureGrid: BC’s Energy Options in a Changing Environment” forum being held in Vancouver starting tomorrow (June 15 and 16, 2010).
Issues on the table include the implications of the Clean Energy Act, how much to invest in energy generation and transmission, future market trends, environmental impacts, and predicted climate change effects. Consumer issues such as smart-grid technology in homes and its effect on personal power bills, plus research into sustainable cities, will also be examined along with the impact of carbon neutrality rules on the public sector. Analysis resulting from the forum will be provided to the BC government and stakeholders.
Media are also welcome to attend a free public panel discussion on “BC: A clean energy exporting powerhouse?” on Tuesday, June 15 from 7.30 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Sheraton Wall Centre. Panelists include representatives from the energy industry, the legal profession, the media, BC universities and First Nations.
