Creek Restoration to Become Community Effort

Hagan Creek doesn't always flow through a sun-dappled, Saanich Penninsula forest glade. On its way to Saanich Inlet, the creek and its tributaries also þow through suburbia, an in-dustrial park and agricultural land. That's why Misty McDuffee is co-ordinating a project launched by UVic's Eco-Research Chair for Environmental Law and Policy, the Institute of Ocean Sciences in Sidney, and Woodwyn Farms, a large local landowner, to restore the creek and, in conjunction with the community, develop a model for watershed sustainability that can be adopted by communities along its route. Through the Hagan Creek/Kennes Watershed Project, McDuffee expects to begin giving presentations about the watershed to area residents and community groups this fall to encourage their direct involvement in the project.
