Norah McRae receives global recognition for commitment to work-integrated learning
Norah McRae, executive director of UVic's Co-operative Education and Career Services, has been awarded the 2017 Mr. Donald MacLaren, Jr. Award for Professional Achievement in Co-operative and Work-Integrated Education from the World Association for Co-operative Education. This is the first time that a Canadian has received the award since 1999.
Since beginning her career in co-op at UVic in 1992, McRae has written and contributed to dozens of papers about best practices in work-integrated learning. Under her guidance, UVic’s co-op program has adopted a unique competency-based framework that fosters co-op students’ reflective learning, developed a consistent professional practice course for all co-op students, woven intercultural competency development into the co-op experience, and developed international and Indigenous exchange partnerships with institutions and employers around the world.
