Guest computing access
Systems provides several ways for our guests to connect while staying at the University of Victoria (UVic):
Connect to eduroam
Visiting scholars and staff from participating institutions such as SFU, UBC, UVic, UNBC, BCIT and TRU can access the Internet wirelessly from their own notebook computer or mobile device through the eduroam network. There is no charge for the eduroam service, but you must have your own computer to use it.
Set up a temporary account
All guests to the university (including conference attendees) must pay a fee to access the computing facilities in the Clearihue Building (CLE), the Business and Economics Building (BEC) or the Human and Social Development Building (HSD). The current access fee is $1 per half hour, $10 per day, or $35 per week (CAD). Visitors may pay with debit, MasterCard or VISA. If paying with cash, payments may be made in the Clearihue facility only.
Visitors must agree to abide by the Responsible Use of Information Technology IM7200 before using our workstations. If a facility is very busy, a visitor may be referred to another facility or be asked to return at a later time.
UVic faculties that organize or sponsor conferences and wish to pre-arrange access for their attendees may contact one of the facility leads to discuss available options and associated costs.
