A letter from Stephen Hawking
Professor Emeritus, Werner Israel, recently donated a portion of his personal library to UVic Libraries which included a 1973 first-edition copy of The Large Scale Structure of Space-Time by Stephen Hawking and G.F.R. Ellis. Even more remarkable than this extraordinary historical gift was the personal letter from Hawking to Israel found tucked inside. This letter revealed a close personal friendship between the two that lasted over half a century.
