Indigenous
students

The University of Victoria welcomes applications from Indigenous, First Nations, Metis, Inuit and Non-Status Indigenous peoples of Canada. We acknowledge with respect the history, customs, and culture of the Coast Salish and Straits Salish peoples on whose traditional lands the university resides.

As the parent of an Indigenous student, it's helpful to be familiar with the main points of the application process. In addition to the information provided below, you can also download the Indigenous Student Handbook (PDF), which includes faculty and student profiles, Indigenous student services, and a list of courses and programs with first nations content.

Voluntary declaration

The categories of an Indigenous person are designed to be inclusive of all Indigenous peoples of Canada. When applying to UVic, it is to your student's advantage to indicate that he or she is an Indigenous student in order to receive relevant information. At no time will documentation of Indigenous ancestry be required and voluntary declaration will not be used for admission decisions.

Support and advising

The Indigenous Liaison Office and other Indigenous faculty advisors are here to support and advise you and your student. Some programs do have a specific application process for Indigenous applicants (e.g., Law, Education, etc.). For more information, contact the individual program advisors.

International
students

We welcome students from around the world. About 10% of our student body come to UVic from outside Canada. As the parent of an international student, it's helpful to be familiar with the services and opportunities available for your student at UVic.

Admission

The application process is the same for international and domestic students, but admission requirements differ. UVic provides an online list of American and international admission requirements.

International Baccalaureate and College Board Advanced Placement
International students who have completed IB or AP may qualify for transfer credit or early admission. Read more about this by visiting our IB/AP page.

Undergraduate English requirement

All undergraduate students, including international students, must satisfy UVic's English language requirements. If your student's first language is not English, he or she must submit proof of English proficiency.

International Baccalaureate (IB)
and Advanced Placement (AP)

UVic recognizes the commitment and effort that characterize International Baccalaureate (IB) and College Board Advanced Placement (AP) students. We understand the importance of supporting high-achieving students as they pursue their post secondary education, and we want UVic to be their first choice university. Transfer credit

The university is pleased to recognize IB students? academic excellence by awarding transfer credit for a wide selection of IB and AP courses.

Early admission

Students attending secondary school and working toward the completion of the International Baccalaureate Diploma may be eligible for special early admission consideration. Applicants in this category should apply to UVic and then arrange for the IB coordinator, school counsellor or principal to send an interim transcript indicating the complete course title of the IB subjects being taken and the predicted final score for each course to:

Scholarships and financial aid just for IB students

Students completing the International Baccalaureate program with a minimum of 32 points are guaranteed a minimum entrance scholarship of $2000 CDN. You can find additional information about scholarships and financial aid online.
