About our initiatives
UVic resides on the traditional lands of the Coast Salish and Straits Salish peoples. It is our goal to be the university of choice for Indigenous faculty, staff and students. Our new First Peoples House provides a focal point for Indigenous support programs and intercultural understanding.
We offer a wide spectrum of Indigenous academic programs with graduate, undergraduate, certificate and diploma accreditation across many faculties including distance learning programs. Our research strengths in Indigenous areas are evident in every faculty and include expertise in ethnobotany, health, education, law, governance, and the preservation and revitalization of language. In addition to these programs and areas of research more than 80 individual courses are offered with significant Indigenous content or focus.
