Theatre and cinema

UVic's Phoenix Theatre

UVic's Phoenix Theatre offers a wide range of dynamic productions showcasing the youth, energy and talent of UVic's Department of Theatre students. Past productions have included Romeo and Juliet, Wind in the Willows, and Guys and Dolls.

Cinecenta

Cinecenta is UVic's repertory movie theatre, including foreign films, film festivals and matinees for children. Cinecenta offers an inexpensive alternative for students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Victoria Film Festival

Victoria's annual independent film festival showcases a broad range of cultural, artistic and philosophical ideas and lifestyles through film, video, and new media.

Belfry Theatre

The Belfry Theatre is Victoria's primary year round professional theatre. Located in Fernwood Village, the Belfry produces contemporary plays from the international repertoire with an emphasis on new Canadian work. Past productions have included Putnam County Spelling Bee and Bordertown Café.

Victoria Theatre Guild

The Victoria Theatre Guild, the oldest community theatre in Western Canada, presents six productions each season at the Langham Court Theatre. Past productions have included A Streetcar Named Desire and The Fantasticks.

Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre

Designed to supplement the great variety of theatre offered in Victoria, Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre is a new company showcasing masterworks from both classical and modern European and North American theatre traditions. Their productions take place in the historic McPherson Theatre.

Victoria Fringe Festival

The Victoria Fringe Festival, produced by Intrepid Theatre, takes place every year in late August/early September. It features hundreds of comedy, theatre, dance and spoken word companies from around the world in eight downtown Victoria venues. You can be sure to find something unusual, thought-provoking and entertaining here!

Uno Festival

Intrepid Theatre also produces the Uno Festival, Canada's original festival of solo performance. The 2011 festival ran from May 19 to 29 and featured music events, a costume party, family shows, and shows that were definitely for adults only.

Kaleidoscope Theatre Productions

Kaleidoscope Theatre Productions produces original plays and adaptations for children and young people. Productions have included Charlotte's Web, The Magic Flute, The Boy Who Learned to Fly and The Hobbit.

Movie Monday at Eric Martin Pavilion

Eric Martin Pavilion, located at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, shows films on Monday evenings for patients and the general public. Admission is free, although donations are welcomed.
