UVic Law Wins Big at 2015 Bowman National Tax Moot

Congratulations to UVic Law’s Bowman National Tax Moot team for winning the prize for Best Factum – Appellant in Toronto on February 28, 2015. The team was made up of students Brian Beitz, Yara Nosikova (for Appellant), James Parker and Virginia Zhao (for Respondent) and Tyler Holte, (researcher and additional oral advocate).

Despite only being five years old, the Bowman Moot is already the second or third largest moot competition in Canada – with a total of twelve law schools competing. There are four big prizes – for Appellant and Respondent Factum, Best Team and Best Advocate (individual).

UVic Law’s moot team would not have been able to compete without the generous financial support of the Vancouver office of Blake Cassels & Graydon LLP. Blakes has backed our team in this moot for all four years UVic Law has participated.

The team also benefited greatly from the involvement of several expert practice judges, including: Sointula Kirkpatrick and David Poore (Ministry of the Attorney General), Andre Rachert, Ryan Green and Craig Young (Cook Roberts), Michelle Moriartey (Legacy Tax and Trust Lawyers), and Ed Kroft, QC, of Blakes Vancouver.
