Faculty and staff

Who We Are:

Our school is located in the Faculty of Human and Social Development (HSD) at University of Victoria, British Columbia on the territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory the university stands and the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.

We have close partnerships and relationships with the local Indigenous communities, Elders, Old Ones, Knowledge Keepers and their communities who are active in the various events we host as a school. We continue to apply and live decolonial work and as such, our practices include Circle Work as a form of governance, leadership and decision making. We work with staff, and sessional lecturers to center decolonial methods of teaching and social work practices and policies. In doing this work, we do our best to be collaborative and transparent in all that we do. Our school is committed to centering Indigenous scholarship that centers experiences of First Nation , Metis and Inuit peoples . In 2020, we implemented our first Decolonial Equity and Admissions process.

Our staff, sessional lecturers, and faculty are comprised of BIPOC and/or members of equity seeking groups and/or allies to social justice work. It is a practice of our school in ‘all’ our hiring, to post all positions as a preferential and/or limited hire. We are proud to share that more than half our faculty have received awards and acknowledgements for their activism in social work education.
