Rosalie Starzomski receives UBC Alumni Award of Distinction

Aurora College

Rosalie was one of the first two students to enter UBC’s School of Nursing Doctoral Program in 1991. Rosalie came to her doctoral studies as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from Vancouver General Hospital where her expertise in kidney disease had been founded on years of clinical practice and in her role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. As one of the very first Clinical Nurse Specialists in BC, Rosalie contributed to the development of the role within the provincial health care system, helping to write a position paper for the Registered Nurses of BC. As she worked toward her degree at UBC, she was regularly invited to speak with the masters’ students. Her knowledge, commitment, and enthusiasm for her work made her an excellent role model. In 1995 Rosalie became a faculty member for University of Victoria’s satellite Lower Mainland Campus, and has since taken on numerous roles at UVic’s School of Nursing, receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2008. more
