4th International Conference on New Horizons in Green Civil Engineering (NHICE-04)

Following the success of the NHICE-01, NHICE-02 and NHICE-03 in 2018, 2020 & 2022 and based on the feedback received from the attendees, the ‘4th International Conference on New Horizons in Green Civil Engineering (NHICE-04)’ will be held on Monday, August 26 to Wednesday, August 28, 2024 as an in-person event in Victoria.

Dr. Phalguni Mukhopadhyaya sets international thermal insulation standards

Working closely with global stakeholders (academicians, researchers, manufacturers, practitioners, etc.), Dr. Phalguni Mukhopadhyaya, Civil Engineering has recently led the development of two new international standards (ASTM C1919 and ISO 16478) for thermal insulations to be used in the construction of low-carbon buildings.

Six UVic researchers make Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher List for 2023

Congratulations to UVic researchers Tom Gleeson Civil Engineering, Ryan Rhodes, Makhsud Saidaminov, Marie-Ève Tremblay, Xuebin Zhang and Francis Zwiers, who made Clarivate's Highly Cited Researcher list for 2023 for the significant and broad influence they have demonstrated in their fields over the past decade.

Camille Zimmer awarded prestigious scholarship from Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation

Now, on the cusp of completing her PhD in Public Health and Environmental Engineering at UVic, she is being honoured as the recipient of the prestigious Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Graduate PhD Award from the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation (CEMF)

Congratulations Dr. Mukhopadhyaya on this well-deserved and prestigious honour!

“Dr. Phalguni brings together fundamental engineering knowledge and applied research expertise in training next-generation engineers at the University of Victoria and aiding design of sustainable building envelopes and structures,” noted the official award citation read out during the CSCE national conference. “Throughout his career, he has developed numerous research collaborations with industry, academic and government organizations and his research outputs have influenced many changes in building construction practices in Canada and beyond.” Congratulations Dr. Mukhopadhyaya on this well-deserved and prestigious honour!

Faculty EDI committee hosted ‘Noon Networking’ at First Peoples’ House

Noon Networking is a weekly event held most Wednesdays during the fall and winter terms in the First Peoples House that welcomes students into the space to connect with staff, share food together, and to learn more about a UVic program area or department who provides a short presentation on their work.

Paving the Way to Replace Cement and Reduce Carbon Emissions

To provide an alternative to carbon dioxide sequestration, Dr. Rishi Gupta (Civil Engineering) and his colleagues at UVic's Facility for Innovative Materials and Infrastructure Monitoring (FIMIM) are pushing the limits of what is possible with concrete by substituting cement with other sustainable binding materials.

Lambert Award

This award recognizes an individual who has made a substantial or sustained contribution of professional service to Engineers and Geoscientists BC through leadership and dedication in a volunteer capacity. Dr. Rishi Gupta is an admired professor in the Department of Civil and has been an active volunteer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC for more than two decades. He integrates research with learning opportunities & applies both to his extensive volunteer service, setting an extraordinary example for his peers & students.
