University of Victoria President David Turpin announced on May 15 that he will step down from his position at the end of June next year.

Esi Edugyan wins another writing prize

Local literary luminary and alumna Esi Edugyan has taken home the BC Book Prizes fiction award. The UVic writing department led the way for this year's nominations, with instructor Steven Price and alumnus DW Wilson nominated for fiction, adjunct prof Patrick Lane for poetry and former instructor Pamela Porter for children's literature.

In the newly launched “Faces of UVic Research” video series, individual researchers give a short and succinct “elevator pitch” on their work—in everyday language—that quickly gets to the heart of what they do and why it matters.

Eyes wide shut for partial eclipse

On May 20, local residents can see for themselves a partial eclipse of the sun—instead of travelling all the way to Australia for the total solar eclipse in November 2012.
