Our priorities

At Gustavson there are a number of opportunities for donors, like you, to direct your support to an area of student need that is most important to you. When you make a gift to any of these priorities, you can know that your gift will directly benefit business students in a meaningful way. If you are interested in making a gift to a different area, contact us and we will be pleased to discuss how your interest can connect with our programs for maximum impact.

Student support

studentsupport

Scholarships, bursaries and awards support students in achieving their educational goals. With the high cost of education, students will never forget the generosity of the award donors who have helped to make their degrees possible.

A gift of $100 pays for a textbook, $450 will pay for one course and a donation of $2,500 will cover a student’s tuition for one semester of their first year.

BCom Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship

Awarded to outstanding students entering the BCom program, these scholarships help make Gustavson the easy choice for the best and brightest business students.

Bill Buckwold/Jennifer Richardson Award

Awarded each year to a student who has overcome significant challenges while pursuing their BCom or MBA degree, donors to this award truly help a student in need.

MBA Pay-it-Forward Award

Awarded to students who facilitate and promote a welcoming and positive learning environment for all MBA students. Students can nominate their classmates for this award – one member from each of the daytime and weekend MBA cohorts receives this award each year.

Dean's innovation

deansinnovation

The Peter B. Gustavson Dean’s Innovation Fund supports the faculties fund raising priorities and also provides support for urgent or unexpected needs. Throughout the year, this fund is used to create opportunities for students through existing programming or by seizing an opportunity to be innovative. As a donor, your gift supports people, priorities and enables the program to grow in new and exciting ways.

BCom International Travel Grants

International is more than a slogan at Gustavson, it is a way of life. Students are inspired by the opportunity to learn abroad, but with rising tuition and living expenses, they can face a difficult financial situation. When you make a gift to travel grants, you help make it possible for every student to have the choice of going on exchange.

MBA Case Competition Grants

Our MBA students could not compete at case competitions throughout the year without the support of donors. When you make a gift to case competition grants, you are supporting registration fees, travel costs, and other expenses that would otherwise limit students’ ability to compete, learn and represent the school at the highest level both in Canada and internationally.

Pre-core Student Support

The Gustavson pre-core program supports students in their first two years of university, before they enter their core 3rd year of business studies. When you make a gift in support of our pre-core program, you help sustain programming for first and second year students, including the Stats 252 tutoring service and the many special community-building and learning opportunities available through the year.

Experiential learning

explearning

Experiential education, a key pillar of the school's educational philosophy, provides Gustavson students with real-world opportunities that enhance their business education. Whether competing in a business case competition, traveling the globe on an international exchange or completing a co-op work team, every Gustavson student is immersed in dynamic learning.

Co-op Opportunities for Student Entrepreneurs

UVic offers Canada's only business program with paid mandatory co-ops for all undergraduate students enrolled in our faculty. Entrepreneurship Co-ops provide students with promising ventures the opportunity to nurture and mobilize their ideas or work for an entrepreneurial venture that could otherwise not fund a co-op position for a student.

Applied Portfolio Management Program

The Applied Portfolio Management Program is a student-run investment program that provides students with investment education, hands-on experience, and industry exposure. As part of the program, students manage a pool of real money, in close coordination with industry and academic support, while building tangible investment management experiences.

Coast Capital Savings Innovation Centre

The Coast Capital Savings Innovation Centre at the University of Victoria is an on-campus business incubator providing free support for the creation and development of new enterprises. The Centre offers services to anyone in the UVic community—students from across disciplines, staff, faculty members and recent alumni – who have an idea for a business and are interested in establishing an ongoing enterprise.
