Gustavson giving

Thank you
Thank you – your gifts make a world of difference.

Quite simply … giving changes lives. Philanthropy is an enormously satisfying way to make a difference in other people’s lives, sometimes in ways we can’t imagine. In the view of 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, it is about helping others help themselves.

“Making other people happy is a super-happiness,” says Dr. Yunus, a professor of economics, who started the worldwide movement of micro-credit lending. Often described as the “banker to the poor,” he established the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh in 1983 that began with a goal to help people get out of poverty and an initial investment of $27.

At Gustavson we are helping to grow the next generation of business leaders, researchers, innovators and social entrepreneurs. With your help we hope they will go on to be as inspirational as Dr. Yunus. Indeed, some are already on their way.

Dean’s Innovation Fund

Give innovation excellence

The Dean’s Innovation Fund supports new initiatives and inspired projects. In order to take advantage of immediate opportunities for innovation and leadership, Peter B. Gustavson School of Business must have the flexibility to move quickly. These types of initiatives are what keeps us competitive and at the forefront of management education.

Support future leaders

Today, students work harder than ever to meet their financial needs. Your gift will help increase the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business’ ability to recognize and reward its students’ achievements.

Chairs and Professorships

Inspire great teaching

People are our greatest resource and professors are the bedrock on which we build our unique and outstanding learning experience. To remain at the cutting-edge of business education, we must invest in a strategy to renew and retain the best faculty.

New chairs and professorships will provide incentives for top scholars or experts in each of our specialization areas to teach and conduct research at Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. This funding will support research and teaching.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Support new leaders

Recognizing excellence and ensuring that qualified students—regardless of their financial situation—have access to a Peter B. Gustavson School of Business education are key to helping our students become the next generation of global business leaders. Scholarships and bursaries support that goal. They also play an essential role in helping us attract and retain the best and brightest students in the face of fierce competition in North America for top business students.

We give students international exposure, in part by giving them the opportunity to participate in an international exchange, work study, project, or co-operative work placement. With your support, we will get closer to our goal of providing 100 per cent of our students with the opportunity to live and study or work abroad.

Improve management practice

At Peter B. Gustavson School of Business, we take very seriously our responsibility to improve the practice of management through research, and thus improve our understanding of human behaviour and potential.

The production of outstanding research is a core value within the faculty and we embed this value in our vision statement.  Internal evaluation has concluded 84% of Gustavson School of Business faculty members are engaged in research.

Donations supporting research give faculty members the money and support they need to help evaluate and create knowledge crucial to today’s business environment.

Building expansion

Make your gift concrete

In 2009 we announced two new programs, the Master of Global Business and our PhD program. As we continue to grow there is an increasing demand for more space. Modern facilities are a necessary ingredient in attracting and retaining top faculty and students.

Currently housed on the first, second and fourth floors of the Business and Economics Building, our plan is to expand and enhance our space. Your gifts will help us:

  • add classrooms, student study rooms, computer labs and team breakout rooms to relieve overcrowding and accommodate charted growth in enrolment;
  • build a new theatre-style classroom for our case courses and flexible classrooms that support our team-based and interactive teaching methods;
  • increase space and access to technology to carry out our research activities, and accommodate our numerous visiting scholars who contribute to the delivery of our enriched programs;
  • relocate faculty in a fashion that will enhance collaboration and interaction; and
  • provide space for our PhD students.
