What you will learn:

  • overview of the knowledge areas of project management as defined by the PMI and others
  • introduction to the project simulation/case study to be used throughout the program*
  • delivery of tools and technology to be used throughout the program

2: Planning & Control

What you will learn:

  • how to form a project team, scope projects and manage within a matrix environment
  • developing detailed and high-level project management plans
  • creating activity-based network diagrams and working with the critical path
  • introduction to earned value management
  • meeting stakeholder requirements with various control strategies

3: Assessing & Managing Project Risk

Online: Wednesday-Thursday, Nov. 18-19, 2026

What you will learn:

  • project risk management framework
  • risk management in project planning and execution
  • quantitative and team facilitation techniques to identify risks and responses
  • utilizing decision trees and expected monetary value
  • applying techniques such as Delphi method and Monte Carlo simulation

4: Effective Project Cost Management

What you will learn:

  • cost estimating: micro versus macro
  • resource planning, budgeting and cost control
  • earned value concepts
  • fixed, variable and unit costs
  • status reporting

5: Project Quality Management

Online: Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2026

What you will learn:

  • how quality is defined and measured
  • the basic process for achieving quality
  • how preventive quality action dramatically reduces project cost
  • how to reduce total cost of quality through problem solving
  • how to overcome obstacles to front-end planning and achieving results

6: Leadership, Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • understanding communication dynamics and your communication style
  • team development: understanding yourself, stakeholders and team members
  • linking team life cycle stages with project communication needs
  • the impact of change curve stages on your project team and stakeholders

  • communication strategies for virtual teams

7: Procurement & Contracting Management

  • procurement and solicitation planning
  • solicitation and negotiation principles
  • source selection
  • contract close-out and contract law

8: Introduction to Agile & Scrum

Victoria (in-person)/online: Wednesday, Feb 10, 2027

What you will learn:

  • agile and scrum introduction
  • sprint preparation
  • sprint execution
  • sprint closure

9: Integration, Review & Final Project Simulation

Victoria (in-person): Wednesday Mar. 3, 2027

What you will learn:

  • review all areas covered in the program to date
  • understand how all parts integrate together
  • execute the program-wide simulation project

Simulation:
Students have been working on the project simulation throughout the program and now they will execute the project—a unique, exciting and somewhat stressful experience. Just like real life.

Many graduates tell us that this is the best part of the program. It serves to pull everything together—all of the knowledge, tools, techniques and relationships come together to complete the program and the student’s tool kit.

*Participants will receive a short assignment after each class. Each of these assignments will be used to tie the program together and serve as the background work for project simulation in the final module.

Project Management Professional Development Units (PDUs)
Earning your PMI certification is a big step, maintaining it doesn’t have to be. Attendees in this program are entitled to 98 PDUs from PMI, upon completion.  
 

Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) Professional Development Hours (PDHs) 
Attendees in this program, upon request, are entitled to receive 9.8 Continuing Educations Units (CEUs) or 98 PDHs accredited by the EIC.
