In this course, you'll learn how to support biomedical device development projects.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • plan and manage biomedical projects
  • manage project budgets and timelines
  • understand intellectual property and regulatory frameworks
  • communicate effectively with interest holders
  • meet the educational requirements for:
    • Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM) exam
    • Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam

Course content

The course includes 3 modules:

Module 1: Project planning and management

  • project scoping and stages
  • human and financial resources, and time value of money
  • development of a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis

Module 2: Intellectual property and regulatory frameworks

  • patents, trade secrets, industrial designs and security in the biomedical engineering field
  • standards organizations and associated provincial, federal and international agencies
  • regulatory frameworks, good laboratory practice (GLP) regulation and certification, biohazard designations

Module 3: Effective communication with stakeholders

  • appropriate communication strategies with stakeholders
  • effective record keeping, including briefing and situation, background, assessment and recommendation (SBAR) reports
  • consultative frameworks, timelines, transparency and confidentiality
  • challenging bias and inclusive strategies
  • current and emerging analytical frameworks for removing barriers and bias

  • over 35 hours of recorded sessions with subject matter experts
  • additional asynchronous material

Fees & cancellations

Cost: $2,000 (plus tax)

Tuition includes all course materials and a certificate of completion from the UVic Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science.

Cancellations

Full refunds are provided for written cancellations received a minimum of 21 days before the program start date. Cancellations received with less than 21 days notice will be refunded less a $200 administration fee.

Funding

This program may be eligible for the StrongerBC future skills grant which can fund the entire tuition balance of this course.

Interested learners who meet the eligibility criteria should let us know during registration if you want to use this grant towards your tuition.
