That Chemistry Show

At this all-ages event, UVic chemistry professor Dr. Alexandre Brolo serves up mad science and cool tricks, with a special blend of science and magic.

“The show features lights, colours, smoke and even cups that shrink,” says UVic chemistry professor Dr. Alexandre Brolo. “Science is actually a lot of fun, and in this show people will see some of the magic that chemical reactions can create.”

Coordinated by the UVic Chemistry Students’ Society, the event carries on a tradition started by the legendary Dr. Zonk (UVic professor emeritus Dr. Reginald Mitchell), whose shows demystified science and entertained more than 60,000 children from the mid-1970s until Mitchell’s retirement in 2008.

The event on Nov. 22, 2012 raised $1,237 for the United Way of Greater Victoria.
