BCSSMC

The BC Secondary School Math Contest is an annual event organized by math faculty from 11 colleges/universities across the province, including Camosun College, Capilano University, College of New Caledonia, Douglas College, Langara College, North Island College, Northwest Community College, University of BC Okanagan, Thompson Rivers University, University of the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island University. The contest consists of two rounds: a preliminary round written at the high schools in April and a final round written at one of the colleges/universities in May. Please see the BCSSMC website for this year's dates.  If you are a high school teacher and you wish to have your class participate please contact the math faculty at the college closest to you.

CEMC contests

The UVic Department of Mathematics and Statistics coordinates the University of Waterloo's CEMC mathematics competitions in local middle and high schools. The Gauss, Pascal, Cayley, Fermat, and Euclid contests target students in grades 7 to 12, and are based on enriched material at each of the various grade levels. For more information on these contests, visit the CEMC contest page. Those who do well in the Fermat or Euclid contest may be eligible for the Excellence in Math Scholarship.

ELMACON

ELMACON is an annual math contest for BC elementary school children in grades 5-7.  The event is held in Vancouver at the UBC campus. ELMACON gives students a chance to experience mathematics as an exciting sport. The University of Victoria hosted its first ELMACON on April 30, 2011.

Math challengers

Math Challengers is an enrichment, coaching and competition program that promotes mathematics achievement among students in Grades 8 and 9 by

• challenging students with stimulating and thought-provoking questions, and
• having school math teams compete with each other at local, regional and provincial tournaments.
