Dr. Carolyn Crippen, Centre for Youth & Society Research Fellow and former member of the Community Advisory Board, passed away on September 26, 2020 at the age of 77.

Dr. Crippen was as a dedicated member of the Centre and an established scholar in the research areas of servant leadership, inclusive education, school, leadership and management, educational leadership, followership. She was especially passionate about collaborating with school boards and educational agencies.

Dr. Crippen joined the University of Victoria in 2009 as an Associate Professor in the department of Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies (EPLS). The Dr. Caryolyn Lee Crippen Scholarship was created under her name and highlights her dedication to the local community and beyond. This scholarship is awarded to Ph.D. students in EPLS who demonstrate strong leadership within schools and the community. She was also a member of the Human Research Ethics Board and Senate at the University of Victoria.  

Dr. Crippen was born in Kingston, Ontario and attained her Ph.D in Education at the age of 60. Before coming to the University of Victoria, she was the Assistant Dean of Education at the University of Manitoba.
