Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)

School of Nursing - Faculty of Human and Social Development

The University of Victoria, School of Nursing is committed to providing leadership in undergraduate and graduate nursing education and research throughout British Columbia and Canada. To support our programs, we are seeking applications for a full-time tenure track faculty member at the Assistant Professor level. We seek an individual who has a strong background in quantitative research and methodology. The position will commence on July 1, 2014 or as negotiated.

The School of Nursing offers two graduate degrees: the PhD in Nursing and the Master of Nursing (MN). The MN degree has four options: Advanced Practice Leadership (APL), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Nurse Educator, and a double-degree  program for students in Nursing and Health Information Science. All of the MN options are offered through distance learning and distributed learning technologies.  The School also offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) to prepare nurses to work with individuals, families, and communities, guided by health promotion principles. The BSN program is delivered through a collaborative  partnership with colleges in Victoria and beyond.  The School also provides ·a post-diploma BSN degree through distributed learning for RNs throughout the country.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a PhD, at least one graduate degree in Nursing, a strong background in quantitative  research, and demonstrated  use of quantitative research methods in a developing research program.

Candidates for the position must be willing to teach across programs at the graduate and undergraduate level and have ability to support teaching of research and quantitative methods at all levels of nursing education and should be able to support graduate students wishing to use quantitative approaches in their research.  candidates must also be able to teach within the philosophy of the curriculum, have an understanding and appreciation  for qualitative  and mixed methods research, and have the ability to work collaboratively. candidates will share the School's commitment  and sensitivity to respect for diversity among colleagues, staff, students, and members of the community. Responsibilities of a faculty position include membership on School committees and participation in governance and decision making within the School.
