Tenure Track Assistant Professor

Mathematics and Statistics - Faculty of Science

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Statistics. The Department enjoys a strong international profile in both theoretical and applied statistics research. Current areas of specialization in statistics include bioinformatics, biostatistics, Bayesian statistics, capture-recapture models, empirical likelihood theory, industrial statistics, optimal design of experiments, robust statistics, small sample asymptotics, spatial statistics, and statistical ecology. The Department has significant external collaborative ties with the Vancouver Island Health Authority, Victoria Hostpice, BC Cancer Agency, as well as many on-campus collaborations.

Requirements

Applicants must have 

  • a Ph.D. in Statistics or a related discipline,
  • an outstanding research record in Biostatistics, and
  • excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The successful applicant will place high value on research projects reaching beyond the department and/or university and must be prepared to assist other department members in support of Statistical Consulting Centre. A record of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching in Statistics is required.
