Procedures & regulations
The biosafety program is based on the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (PHAC) Canadian Biosafety Standards (CBS) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) Containment Standards. The Biosafety program is also in compliance with the Human Pathogens and Toxins Act.
The UVic Biosafety Manual provides an overview of the biosafety program at UVic. It also provides the requirements for working with biohazards on campus. Please contact the Biosafey Officer if you require a copy.
Additionally the UVic biosafety procedures outline the minimum procedures that must be followed when working in a biohazard lab. A copy of these procedures should be posted in every biohazard lab on campus.
