 Professional Responsibility in Dispute Resolution: Challenging Legal Ethics Issues in Mediation and Negotiation

As Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) increases in prominence in Canada, critical and complex ethical and professional conduct dilemmas relating to the field are challenging the legal profession and policy makers. UVic Law will host a two-hour workshop and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course with senior counsel and academics on best practices for identifying and responding to these practical ethical challenges. The workshop will be highly participatory and provide opportunities for hands-on work with several realistic fact patterns.

Speakers:

Mary E. Mouat, QC – Lawyer at Quadra Legal Centre and past Chair of the Victoria Alternative Dispute Resolution Section with expertise in family law.

Eugene Raponi, QC – Lawyer at Waddell Raponi with speciality in dispute resolution, mediation and family law.

Professor Andrew Pirie – Legal expert whose teaching interests focus on alternative dispute resolution, legal ethics and professionalism.
