Other public sectors
Collective bargaining under the 2010 “net zero” mandate resulted in ratified collective agreements in most bargaining units across the public sector, including the BCGEU, the BCTF and the health care unions.
The University of Victoria’s 2010 agreements with the Faculty Association, the Professional Employees Association (PEA) and CUPE 4163 (component 3- sessional and music performance instructors) were renewed under this mandate.
Very few “net zero” settlements were reached with CUPE bargaining units in the post-secondary sector, including at the research-intensive universities of SFU, UBC and UVic.
Under the 2012 “cooperative gains” bargaining mandate, negotiations have concluded with the provincial government (with the BCGEU and the PEA). Most research university bargaining units have since reached agreements that either bridge both the 2010 “net zero” mandate and the 2012 “cooperative gains” mandate (four- year agreements) or were settled under the 2012 “cooperative gains” mandate (two-year agreements).
In our own sector, negotiations are continuing with faculty at UBC, UVic and SFU.
