Overseas Internships

Many of our students have enjoyed overseas internship positions and have had incredible experiences!  In the past we have placed students with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, resulting in students interning in Shanghai and Victoria.  Students have received internships at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, China.

Our department has an excellent relationship with the Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives (CAPI), and many of our students have been accepted for overseas internships as part of their long-standing program. CAPI organizes placements across Asia and the Pacific, please see CAPI's internship program for details on the annual competitions.  You can read about students' experiences on these internships by reading CAPI Intern blog.

UVic Career Services also offers assistance for our students to find placements abroad.

Emily Kydd (2007)

CAPI (Center for the Asia Pacific Initiative) is an interdisciplinary resource and research centre that aims to expand and strengthen Canadian links with the Asia-Pacific region, and whose internship program concerns young Canadian students and graduates to international development work in Asia and the Pacific.  I am one of eight interns that have had the opportunity to work for PIAF (Pacific Islands AIDS Foundation) through CAPI as a chance to gain first hand exposure and development work experience in the region.  And when I was walking through downtown Honiara, I knew I had gotten both exposure and experience.  My time in the Solomon Islands and at PIAF has forged my commitment and respect for the region in a way that my classroom studies never could, and has cemented my desire to return.
