Janet Newbury

Janet is passionate about intergenerational and intercultural civic engagement. She has done post-doctoral research on community based approaches to economic development, and is presently an adjunct professor at both UVic (where she is a sessional instructor in the School of Child and Youth Care) and VIU (where she sits on the Strategic Research Planning Committee). She enjoys a healthy balance of research, teaching, and community work. She is currently a member of the board of directors of the Sunshine Music Festival and of the Powell River Historical Museum & Archives; a researcher for the development of a community social plan for the Powell River region; and a researcher and writer on a national project with the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Health Canada. She also dedicates much of her time to participating in community-based events and initiatives.
