Our programs, courses and sessions, based on our core and leadership competencies, will support your personal and professional development.

Our courses are free for all permanent fulltime and part-time staff.  However, a FAST code is required at time of registration as charges will be strictly enforced for last minute cancellations or no-shows. Please read our cancellation policy for more information.  To avoid these charges we recommend you only register for courses you know you will be able to attend.

FAQs

Who can take these courses?

Courses are available to all permanent full-time and part-time employees.

If you don't fit into either of those categories (i.e., term or casual), contact the Organizational Development and Learning Services team () to discuss your options. 

Please note that certain courses are designed for certain audiences such as staff, supervisors, managers etc. You'll find this information can in the course description and on our calendar.

Please be sure to check and see if you're eligible for the course before you register.

What does audience mean?

Certain courses are geared toward certain levels/positions on campus. We have divided this up into five groups:

  • Staff
  • Aspiring/new supervisors
  • Supervisors
  • *Managers
  • Leaders

* Please note for the purposes of learning and development we have defined managers as those who lead, guide, influence and direct. The word manager doesn't have to be in the job title.

When registering for any of our courses please make sure you fit into the audience type.

However, please note our cancellation policy that may reflect a charge to your department.

How do I find out what courses I've taken?

We use the Continuing Studies system for registration. To check what courses you having coming up and ones you have taken:

  • Go to the Continuing Studies site.
  • Log in with your Netlink ID and password.
  • On the centre of the page you'll see a list of upcoming courses.
  • On the left side of the screen you'll see a link called 'my courses.'
  • Click on 'my courses' to see courses you've registered for.

How do I cancel a course?

Can I take courses individually or do I have to take them as part of a certificate program?

You are welcome to take courses individually based on your personal needs and interests and not as part of a certificate program.

However, if you find that you change your mind and want to complete a certificate program, you can apply for certificate programs at any time and all courses taken before enrolling will be applied towards the certificate.

If I have taken courses individually can I decide later to join a certificate program?

Absolutely!

You can apply for a certificate program at any point in the process.

How long does it take to complete a certificate program?

The program can often be completed in a couple years and is self-paced. Take as many courses as you would like that best suits your schedule.

Do I need to take courses in the certificate program in the order listed?

No. Courses can be taken in any order for the certificate program.

We recommend that when you see them to register for them right away as it could be a little while before they are offered again.

How do I apply for a certificate program?

  • Print off the certificate application form
  • Fill out all the details on the form
  • Both you and your supervisor/manager will sign the form
  • Send via fax, mail or email to:
