Individually supervised courses

Individually supervised studies can be directed studies courses or regular courses taken that are individually supervised. They may be undertaken during:

Summer session

  • May 1 - July 28
  • May 8 - June 30
  • July 5 - August 21
  • Under no circumstances will courses be allowed to extend beyond June 30 or August 21, 2017.

Winter session

  • September - April
  • September - December
  • January - April

Conditions

The following conditions apply to all individually supervised courses:

  1. You must have an academic standing acceptable to the faculty or department, division or school in which the course is given.
  2. Approval in writing must be given by each of the following in the order indicated:

    a. The supervising faculty member(s).
    b. The chair of the department or division or the director of the program.
    c. The dean of the faculty, who requires a course outline for directed studies courses.
  3. These written approvals must be received by Undergraduate Records before the section start date.

How to register

Undergraduate students

  1. Fill out a pro forma course form.
  2. If you plan to take a course offered by the Faculty of Education, take all forms to an adviser in the Faculty of Education. This applies even if you're in another faculty.
  3. If you're not taking an education course, submit the completed and signed forms to Undergraduate Records before the deadline dates.

    a. Get written approval from the instructor.
    b. If you're taking a directed studies course, get a course outline.

    c. Obtain the written approval of the director/chair and dean.
    d. Submit the signed form to Undergraduate Records.
