Building openings & namings

We organize events to celebrate ground-breakings, dedications, openings and naming ceremonies for facilities and interior spaces. These ceremonies recognize donors, architects, contractors, public officials and other major stakeholders involved in the project.

On November 17, 2016 the University of Victoria honoured the legacy and generosity of the late Michael Williams—devoted local philanthropist, respected heritage property developer and long-time patron of the arts who passed away in November 2000—with the official naming of the university’s administrative services building as the Michael Williams Building.  Over 100 friends and colleagues of Michael’s attended the event to share their stories about him and his positive impact on UVic and the greater Victoria community.

On April 21, 2016 over 200 community members attended the official opening of the new Continuing Studies building addition. Guests took self-guided tours through the new executive classrooms, language labs, study/pronunciation/writing centers, and large, sky-lit atrium and learned about the hundreds of diverse courses and programs offered each term.

On May 1, 2015 the doors officially opened to the new Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities. Over 650 campus and community members attended the opening ceremony, with another 200 who participated in the tours to showcase the new faciltities.
