David Miller, advocate for sustainable economies, joins Gustavson School of Business as executive in residence

Victoria, BC (November 17, 2021) - The Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria welcomes lawyer, author and passionate advocate for sustainable urban economies David Miller as a new executive in residence.

A forceful proponent for the next generation of sustainable jobs, Miller notably served as the Mayor of Toronto for two terms from 2003 to 2010 and is a past president and CEO of WWF-Canada, the Canadian division of the International World Wildlife Fund. Today, Miller is the Managing Director of International Diplomacy for the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, the leading global network of cities committed to addressing climate change.

“We are proud to welcome David Miller to his new role at the school,” said Saul Klein, dean of the Gustavson School of Business. “David is a leading voice in promoting climate change solutions. His commitment to the creation of sustainable urban economies and the next generation of green jobs makes him an inspiring and invaluable asset to our learning and research environment.”

Gustavson faculty and students will benefit from Miller’s exemplary mentorship and lectures. Miller will also be assisting Gustavson in building collaborations with other organizations. Under his leadership as Mayor of Toronto (2003-2010), Toronto was praised internationally for its environmental leadership, economic robustness and social integration. While he served as Counsel, International Business & Sustainability at Aird & Berlis LLP, Miller advised companies and international organizations on issues surrounding the creation of sustainable urban economies.

"I'm very honoured to be an executive in residence at Gustavson. As a business school, Gustavson is unique,” said Miller. “We won't succeed at finding a solution to climate change unless businesses are all in, and I'm thrilled to be a part of that change and progress.”
