November 10, 2020, Victoria, BC – University of Victoria’s Gill Graduate School at the Gustavson School of Business has once again been recognized for its global leadership in sustainable business education – with its full-time MBA ranking as one of the top programs in the world that instils a holistic approach to business in future leaders.

The 2020 Corporate Knights Better World MBA Index evaluated 150 MBA programs from around the world to determine the top 40. This year, Corporate Knights also featured an undergraduate ranking, and the Gustavson School of Business BCom featured among the top five in this category.

“We are humbled and honoured to be ranked among the top business schools in the world on the Better World MBA Index,” says Saul Klein, dean of the Gustavson School of Business. “Sustainability and social responsibility are values that are deeply woven through everything we do at Gustavson – from course curriculum to community initiatives, and to be recognized for those efforts is heartening.”

UVic’s MBA in Sustainable Innovation focuses on giving students the right skills to drive positive change as responsible leaders of the future. It allows students to explore new career avenues, such as socially minded corporate leadership, community building, and entrepreneurship. The curriculum includes courses such as Sustainable Operations Management, Social Entrepreneurship, Global Sustainable Business, and more.

“Now more than ever, we need leaders who truly understand the importance of innovative and sustainable solutions for the complex problems of the 21st century,” says Klein. “We need leaders who ask the right questions and look at the world through a sustainable lens. This is exactly why sustainable innovation underpins all the courses in our MBA program.”

The Better World MBA Index evaluates schools across five key performance indicators: the number of sustainability-focused articles in peer-reviewed journals and citations (30% and 20% respectively), the number of core courses that incorporate sustainable development topics (30%), research institutes and centres devoted to sustainable development issues (10%) and faculty gender and racial diversity in the business school (5% each).
