Innovative Master of Global Business program expands to Scotland and Thailand

January 31, 2018 – The Master of Global Business at the Sardul S. Gill Graduate School at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business is offering a new study path for students joining the program in January 2019.

The unique master’s degree immerses students in three different cultures over the course of their 12-month program. Its latest offering allows for three months of study in Canada at the University of Victoria, followed by three months of coursework in Scotland at the University of Glasgow, with a final three months of classroom study in Thailand at Chulalongkorn University. Students go on to complete a three-month workplace internship, allowing them to practice their learning in a real-world setting.

The process of choosing partner universities is intricate and involves a number of important criteria, to ensure all partners are aligned with Gustavson’s educational goal. In addition to being double-accredited (AACSB and EQUIS), the business schools have to share the philosophy and a deep commitment to cultural diversity, internationalization and global business.

“Our students gain cross-cultural competence through their firsthand experience in international communities who have their own unique business cultures,” says John Oldale, associate director of the MGB program, which have produced more than 300 alumni since it was launched in 2010. “Accepted applicants spend one year in a supercharged, intensive global business environment working across cultural borders as they strive for academic and career success.”

The MGB program at Gustavson is unique in the way it is delivered and in its level of choice. “It’s a game-changer for students who enroll. Not only do they get deeply immersed into the cultures of the three countries they’re studying in – and the cultures of the cohort group, but they also learn about global business in the real world as they expand their global mindset,” says Oldale. “During the course of the program – and as a result of it – their lives get transformed.”

The Master of Global Business program offers three additional study paths:

  • University of Victoria (Canada) – National Sun Yat-Sen University (Taiwan) – Johannes Kepler University (Austria)
  • University of Victoria (Canada) – Montpellier Business School (France) – Sungkyunkwan University Business School (South Korea)
