UVic MBA students compete in 'Business for a Better World' contest

UVic MBA students Jesal Shah, Andrew Spence, Susan Laidlaw, and Karin Feldkamp have advanced to round two of the Corporate Knights’ Business for a Better World case study competition. Three of the five teams will advance to the final round. Both round two and the final round will be held on Jan. 23, 2015 in Davos, Switzerland. Teams will be competing for $10,000 in top prizes.
The competition is now down to five groups after starting with 25 groups from universities from around the world. It requires each group to apply 12 of the most widely disclosed and tracked sustainability indicators to the case. Teams are challenged to identify priority social, environmental, and governance metrics for the study (in this case, Novartis, a Canadian healthcare company) and improve its performance relative to industry peers on the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World, an annual benchmark ranking that has been produced by Corporate Knights since 2005.
