Our faculty produces world-class research in a variety of fields. They address topics like global change and sustainability, society and health, oceans and climate, and Indigenous and cultural studies.

Our programs

Most of our graduate programs are research-intensive, giving students the opportunity to conduct in-depth research with leading scholars in their fields.

We offer a variety of MA, MSc and PhD programs as well as interdisciplinary programs.

Interdisciplinary programs

You’ll have many opportunities to pursue interdisciplinary graduate studies in social sciences. If you’re interested in interdisciplinary research, you can create a supervisory committee that includes one or more faculty members from other disciplines.

Available program

If you’re interested in exploring a research area that incorporates knowledge and skills from different disciplines, you can tailor an academic program to your interests through an individual interdisciplinary program.

Co-op program

You can also take advantage of UVic's leading cooperative education program. With co-op, you'll combine relevant paid work terms with your studies.

Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (LATHE)

Graduate with an edge in the competitive post-secondary job market. The Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (LATHE) program is the first of its kind in Canada. You'll learn how to teach effectively in higher education to support students' learning.

This two-year graduate credit program is guided by recent research in the field of learning and teaching in higher education. Learn how to design lessons, articulate your teaching narrative, give and receive feedback, construct a course and more.
