Ian Putnam has been named a Fellow of the American Math Society

Dr Ian Putnam has been named a Fellow of the American Math Society (AMS). The AMS is the world's largest and most influential society dedicated to research in the mathematical sciences. The Fellows of the American Mathematical Society are selected for their outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication and application of mathematics.

Ian Putnam works on operator algebras, dynamical systems and the interactions between them. He has made world-class contributions to both of these important research areas of modern mathematics. In particular, his work has been focussed on the emerging field of aperiodic order, the mathematical theory behind quasi-crystals and other unusual patterns that mix randomness and repetition.
