Crossing Borders Interns Getting Ready to Go!

The interns gathered May 7th for pre-departure orientation.

Congratulations to the ten UVic students selected to participate in CAPI’s 2015 Crossing Borders Internship Program.

These ten students will be leaving over the summer to spend six months working on community development and migrants’ rights issues with our partner organizations in Bangladesh, India, Malaysia and Nepal.

CAPI’s new Crossing Borders Internship and Scholarship Program is made possible with funding from the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship program – a joint initiative of Universities Canada (formerly the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada), Community Foundations of Canada and the Rideau Hall Foundation.  Over the next four years (2015-2018), CAPI will be offering 60 student scholarships and internships.

Internships placements are 6-7 months long and represent a unique opportunity for experiential learning, the development of cross-cultural understanding and communication skills, and first-hand experience of grassroots community engagement and activism in the global south. Interns will receive academic credit through directed studies, their academic programs or as co-op placements. In the past, CAPI interns have been involved in conducting field research, contributing to ongoing projects and workshops, as well as attending regional and international conferences.
