Appeals and concessions

The University of Victoria places some expectation on the students to carry out their outlined responsibilities. For full university policies, you can refer to the academic calendar.

Undergraduate academic concession

A student who is affected by illness, accident or family affliction should immediately consult with Counselling Services, Health Services or another health professional. In such cases, the student may apply for an academic concession.

Fee reduction appeals committee (FRAC)

  • At the beginning of each term, there is a time period where courses may be dropped via My page without owing tuition.
  • Once the 100% fee reduction deadline has passed, students must pay at least 50% of the tuition for the course.
  • Registration in a course after the 100% fee reduction deadline incurs a tuition debt even if that course is dropped immediately. After the 50% fee reduction deadline, students must pay 100% of the tuition for the course.

The fee reduction appeals committee meets regularly throughout the two academic sessions (winter and summer). The fee reduction appeals committee will consider appeals for a retroactive course drop and fee reduction after a student has taken the following initial steps:

If the academic course drop deadline has not passed

and you believe a course drop has not been accurately entered on your student record, then contact Undergraduate Records (Main Floor, University Centre)

If the academic course drop deadline has passed

Submit a fee reduction appeal to the appropriate faculty/program dean/advising centre.

If you believe a fee payment has been incorrectly entered in your student fee account

contact Tuition Fees (main floor, University Centre)

If you have extenuating circumstances (e.g. illness, family affliction, accident)

Submit your appeal using the fee reduction appeal form.

Send the form, along with supporting documentation to:
