Mandarin Singing Contest

Mandarin Singing Contest at UVic:
On October 25 UVic held a preliminary concert for the Chinese Bridge Mandarin Singing Competition, an annual bonanza where students from all over BC come to sing in Mandarin for fame and fortune, and cash prizes. In the David Lam Auditorium over a hundred singers and fans shared in the fun as UVic and Camosun students sang pop songs, love ballads and nursery rhymes. Not only was the Mandarin fluent, but some students could really sing! It was a real riot, rounded off with added performances from judges and from our wonderful MCs from the Chinese Students Society, who gave us a taste of how it's done for real. It was a pleasure to watch and participate in, and I wish the best of luck to UVic's many competitors going to Vancouver on Saturday November 2 where they will compete with the best of BC's Chinese as a second language singers. Jia You! Let's go!
