Dr. Garðarsdóttir taught GMST 369: Depiction of Women in Scandinavian Literature - Special Focus on Icelandic Writers. In this course students read a selection of acclaimed literary texts (novels, short stories, poems), by well-known Scandinavian women writers. After putting the texts into a cultural and historical context, students prepared presentations and introduced special topics. There was also a collection of critical writings made available to students for purposes of further research. In the end students not only had a good overview of the writings by Scandinavian – Icelandic in particular – women writers, but of a host of important concerns in literature, literary studies, gender studies, historical memoirs, life writing, the subjective/objective paradigm, postcolonial studies, and more.
