Stephen Hume came to British Columbia in 1948. His near 50-year career in journalism has covered everything from prize fights to prime ministers and has spanned every newsroom job from copy chaser to editor-in-chief.

Hume joined the Vancouver Sun as columnist-at-large in 1989. His writing has won more than a dozen journalism and literary awards. He's authored nine books of poetry, essays, history and natural history and his work has been widely anthologized. His latest book, A Walk with the Rainy Sisters, was published in 2010. He's taught creative non-fiction in UVic's writing department for 22 years.
